SAN FRANCISCO — News has dropped that the 1993 comedy “Mrs. Doubtfire” is getting a sequel.
The Wrap reported that a source close to Fox confirmed a sequel to the hit movie is in development.
Reports are that the film will feature a script from David Berenbaum, who wrote “Elf,” and that director Chris Columbus will return.
Robin Williams is rumored to reprise his role, which means most of the original team behind the first film is back.
“Mrs. Doubtfire” made an impressive $441 million worldwide and the studio hopes that 20-plus years later the character will have the same appeal.
There’s still no timetable as to when the sequel will hit theaters.
