SALT LAKE CITY - The AP has released its latest college football poll and there are two local teams with reason to enjoy it.
BYU has entered the Top 25 at No. 25 after receiving votes in the poll's previous two weeks. Utah State is the other team that has reason to celebrate. The Aggies aren't in the polls, they just did something they haven't done in 46 years, receiving a single vote.
BYU defeated Washington State and Weber State in its first first two weeks; the Cougars now turn their attention to Saturday's game with the Utah Utes in Salt Lake City.
Utah State beat the Utes on Friday for the first time since 1997 and for a reward Gary Andersen and crew earned the Ags a vote in the poll for the first time since 1966. USU will travel to Wisconsin to play the Badgers, who lost to Oregon State and fell out of the polls.
The Utes, who will go from one in-state rival to another, didn't get a vote for the first time this season.
Even though Weber State lost yesterday, the Wildcats might be able to take solace in a historic fall by local villain John L. Smith and the Arkansas Razorbacks. Smith, who left Weber State before playing a game in the spring, lost to Louisiana-Monroe and fell from No. 8 to unranked, the second-largest fall in the history of the AP's history.
Alabama, USC, LSU and Oregon are the top four teams with Oklahoma and Florida State tied for fifth. The rest of the top 10 includes Georgia, South Carolina, West Virginia and Michigan State.
The Pac-12 has five schools ranked, including UCLA and Arizona who entered the polls this week after beating ranked teams.
The only other opponent for the three FBS schools that is ranked is Notre Dame, who plays BYU, and is ranked 20th.
