SALT LAKE CITY — Cooler and wet weather has helped firefighters control fires across the state.
Northern Utah
Quail Fire
The fire in Alpine has burned 2,220 acres and was 90 percent contained Saturday.
All homeowners were allowed to return Thursday, though Box Elder Peak, Trail 046, and portions of Trail 044 in the fire area remain closed.
Eastern Utah
Uinta Fire
A fire 18 miles northwest of Neola in Duchesne County has burned 11 acres and is at 0 percent containment.
The Uinta Canyon Trailhead and Uinta Canyon Trail remain closed to ensure access for firefighters.
Church Camp Fire
The Church Camp Fire, which started on June 29, was at 100 percent containment Friday. It burned 7,211 acres.
Evacuation for the area will be lifted in phases. Owners that have suffered damage were able to return to the area on Saturday at 8 a.m. Those owners that wish to examine their property will need to go to the road block at the top of Indian Canyon and check in. Sunday July 8 at 8 a.m. all other property owners will be allowed to return. Access to the closed area will be limited to owners for only a few days. Homeowners will need proof of residency to return to the area.
Wolf Den Fire
A 16,865 acre fire in Uintah County is 85 percent contained.
Investigators say the cause of the fire may have been dry lightning.
Central Utah
Clay Springs Fire
A 108,191 acre fire in Oak City, Millard County has reached 72 percent containment.
Seeley Fire
The fire in Huntington Canyon and Gentry Mountain in Sanpete County has burned 48,397 acres and is 38 percent contained. It is expected to reach full containment by Sunday, July 15.
Rain is helping with the containment, but it caused flash flooding and a mudslide on Highway 31 Saturday. Nobody was injured by the slide, as the area is evacuated.
Evacuations include the Electric Lake area, Scofield, Clear Creek, Miller Flat Reservoir area, Cleveland Campground, Hog Flat area and two youth camps. A major oil and gas field has been shut down. Several working coal mines in the area remain under a pre -evacuation notice. The evacuations of Scofield and Hiawatha have been lifted to permanent residents only.
Southern Utah
Shingle Fire
The fire in Shingle Mill Canyon in Kane County has burned 8,200 acres, and is at 25 percent containment.
The evacuation order for homes north of U.S. 14 were lifted on Friday and U.S. 14 was also opened. Swains Creek evacuations were rescinded on Saturday at 6 a.m.
One uninhabited cabin was destroyed southwest of U.S. 89, also known as Todd Corner. Crews are working to secure the fire where 550 residences, one commercial property and 300 outbuildings are threatened.
