I think Thursday is the new Saturday.
Seriously.
The week of August 30th might be the most interesting work week for employers here in the state of Utah. It might end up being similar to a work week when Christmas is on a Wednesday — totally unproductive.
I am of course referring to the beginning of the college football season, and the state of Utah will be right at the forefront.
The Utes begin the night at Rice-Eccles Stadium with 45,000-plus as they open their second Pac-12 season with Northern Colorado. Kickoff is set for 5:15 pm, and who knows when the tailgating will start, maybe the week before.
Utah State will host Southern Utah probably just as the second quarter of the Utah game gets underway. Kickoff for the Aggies and TBirds is set for 6 pm at Romney Stadium. Aggie fans are sure to be hyped for their season and the TBirds always think they will come in and compete.
Then a little later, the best match up of the night will take place in Provo as BYU will host the now Mike Leach coached Washington State Cougars at 8:15pm.
Okay, settle down, grab the brown paper bag, breathe in and out, stop hyperventilating.
Breathe, breathe ... good.
It is amazing to think of that night. 45,000 people in Rice-Eccles, 65,000 people in LaVell Edwards Stadium, just under 30,000 people in Romney Stadium.
And that's not counting the people watching all over the state.
Save the date, Thursday, August freaking 30th.
