SALT LAKE CITY - Former Westminster head coach Tommy Connor has accepted a position to join Larry Krystkowiak's staff as an assistant coach with the University of Utah.

Connor, a former Utah player (1986-88, 1990) and assistant coach (1994-97), returns to his alma mater after a very successful 12-year stint as the head coach at Westminster College.

Tommy Connor coached the Griffins to a 264-114 record (70%), including seven of the last ten Frontier Conference titles while earning a spot in the NAIA National Tournament nine times.

"We are extremely excited to add Coach Connor to our staff," said Krystkowiak. "He is an experienced, winning basketball coach and a quality individual. It's also very important for us to have someone on staff who was a player and assistant coach here, who understands and appreciates the tradition and history of Utah basketball. I know Tommy is as passionate as I am about the challenges ahead as we work to restore this program."

Connor was a four-year starter for the Runnin' Utes at point guard. After graduating with a B.S. in Exercise and Sport Science, he spent three years as a Graduate Assistant and another four years as an assistant coach at Utah under Rick Majerus. During his time on the bench, Connor helped guide Utah to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight as well as the NIT "Final Four", while capturing four Western Athletic Conference championships.

"I am very excited to be back as part of Utah basketball once again," said Connor. "This is a wonderful opportunity that Coach Krystkowiak has given me. I am excited to face the challenges ahead and I look forward to helping Coach K take Utah in this new direction."

Connor is the first coach to join new Ute Head Coach Larry Krystkowiak's staff.

Connor has been married to his wife Kathryn for 22 years. He has a son, Jake (14) and two daughters Sydney (12) and Cass (9).
