As I posted my last post I was certain Real Salt Lake PR would have an email on all the days activities, but I got sent out on assignment and couldn't check for said email.

Well sure enough that information arrived and with it a trade was made with Portland. Arturo Alvarez will now play for ReAL next season after the Left footed Forward was taken in the expansion draft from San Jose and then the Timber traded him to RSL for a draft slot in the January 22nd Super Draft.

Alvarez also had some great numbers way back in 2003 and to know he can finish is always good news when you are looking at forwards. I think Jason Kreis knows the look of a finisher.

This is hardly a surprise move by both teams. Portland

RSL Blog: Good-Bye -- Hello

needs bodies and potential talent into their ranks to build on a team for the future, hence a draft pick.

Real Salt Lake needs a forward to replace Findley and Alvarez is just fine. He brings knowledge, scoring, passing and a left foot. That helps in the world of soccer, a natural left footed player can usually handle the ball better on the left side. Plays can be thrown that way and you don't have to worry about a right footed player needing to square up his right side of his body. So we will see how much of the field this veteran will see.

Should be a good move by Salt Lake and on the finally move of the day RSL waved Alex Nimo who in my post from Tuesday I mentioned did not want to come back and play here. So now Portland can pick him up but, he needs to be cheep for them and then it will happen.
