HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah (AP) -- Plans to fly 128 World War Two veterans and their families from Hill Air Force Base to see the World War Two memorial in Washington, D.C., have been canceled.
Lieutenant Beth Woodward, a spokeswoman for the 388th Fighter Wing at Hill said the cancellation was a disappointment.
Hill was scheduled to hold a send off for the veterans tomorrow with displays of fighter planes and an honor guard.
The Utah-based nonprofit group, Our Unsung Heroes, raised funds for the chartered flight.
The group announced today that the flight had to be canceled after issues arose with the airline contracted to fly the trip.
The veterans were scheduled to visit the memorial on Saturday, which is Armed Forces Day.
The group's first "Hero Flight" took place last year over the Veterans Day weekend in November.
About 100 veterans and their families made the flight which departed from the Utah Air National Guard base in Salt Lake City.
