Gene Kennedy ReportingSalt Lake County District Attorney Lohra Miller says she is considering filing charges against a Taylorsville police officer who hit and killed a man.
The officer, who has not been named, was on his way to join a police chase in February when he hit a car driven by 27-year-old John Douglas of Tooele. It happened at 4700 S. Redwood Road.
One of the two men ran a red light, but authorities won't say which one.
The fact that who ran the red light is in question raises doubt as to whether the officer had his lights and siren on. If he did, he could have run a red light. The night we reported on the deadly accident, police told us the officer had his lights and siren on. Investigators also said the victim made an improper left turn in front of an oncoming police car.
Now, District Attorney Lohra Miller says she's considering a charge of negligent homicide against the officer. Before she makes a decision, Miller wants to talk to Douglas's wife to see if she has any preferences in the case.
Douglas died on scene, and the officer has been on administrative leave since the wreck.
