LAS VEGAS (AP) — Voters will choose in November between Assistant Sheriff Joe Lombardo and retired police Capt. Larry Burns to become Clark County sheriff and head the more than 4,800-employee Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
The two finalists were the top vote-getters, followed by retired Assistant Sheriff Ted Moody and six other candidates in Tuesday's non-partisan primary.
Either Lombardo or Burns will replace Doug Gillespie. He's retiring after eight years as sheriff.
Among the other six candidates were retired police sergeant and former Las Vegas township constable Robert "Bobby G" Gronauer and Clark County District Court marshal and former Wendover, Utah, police chief Angel Barboza.
Las Vegas police cover all of Clark County except the cities of Henderson, North Las Vegas, Mesquite and Boulder City.
