SALT LAKE CITY — The fourth-ranked Utah gymnastics team claimed its second consecutive victory of the season scoring 196.675 in its home opener Friday night against Southern Utah (195.500), Boise State (194.525) and UC Davis (193.950) before a crowd of 14,254.

The MVP of the night for the Red Rocks went to the deserving senior Georgia Dabritz, won two events — bars (9.925) and floor (9.95) — along with all-around (39.60). On her floor routine, one of the two judges gave the All-American and Pac-12 champ a perfect score of 10.0.

“It was a really happy moment for me, but at the same time I had to hurry on to the next performer because it’s not just me out there,” Dabritz said.

Dabritz was in the all-around lineup twice last season. Beam isn’t her strongest event, but when the team needed a last-minute replacement for the beam it was she who the coaches thought was most ready.

“Kailah (Delaney) missed one day with some dizziness. She was struggling a little bit in warmups. We felt for tonight at least it was better to get back to the gym and rebuild her confidence,” said co-head coach Greg Marsden.

Tory Wilson (39.30), Corrie Lothrop (39.175) and Baely Rowe (38.575) competed in all-around with Dabritz.

But the night started a little rocky. On the vault, not one Ute scored a 9.90. Delaney’s (9.725) knees buckled on her landing, and Dabritz (9.875) and Kari Lee (9.875) were the only gymnasts to stick it. Utah earned a total score of 49.125 for the event.

“I just thought having been through a meet it’d be a little better," Marsden said. "We need to complete our routines in meets the way we are practicing in the gym."

Things picked up in the second rotation on the bars where the Red Rocks scored the night’s best total score 49.225. Breanna Hughes led off the event with a 9.750. Kassandra Lopez and Lothrop both scored 9.875 and Wilson earned a 9.800. The night's first 9.90 for the Utes went to Dabritz (9.925).

Heading into the final rotation, Utah had a one-point lead thanks to Dabritz (9.850), Wilson (9.80), Lee (9.825) and Rowe’s (9.825) beam scores.

Utah seemed to execute floor a little easier than beam and vault, coming in a close second to bars as the best event of the night (49.250). Lee and Lothrop both received 9.80, while Wilson (9.850) had to follow Dabritz’s (9.95) stellar performance.

“I thought there were some high points, but I guess for the second meet of the season we were expecting a little more," Marsden said. "I’m not sure we used them (our fans) in the way we’d ultimately like to."

Utah opens its Pac-12 schedule against UCLA Jan. 23 at 6 p.m. at the Huntsman Center.

“We can be better in every event. I expect to be better on every event," Marsden said. "They expect to be better on every event. We will be better on every event."
