SALT LAKE CITY -- The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will soon give the people of Haiti the tools to build shelters for the April rainy season.
The Church says it's working to put together as many as 600 temporary housing kits for members in the earthquake-torn country. The kits contain lumber, corrugated tin for the roof and hurricane straps to help hold the structures together.
Church officials say they are trying to clear rubble away from people's property so they can erect the new homes. It will be a big improvement for many families who now live in tents at various meetinghouses in Port-au-Prince.
The Church provided nearly 1,500 tents to those left homeless and sponsored several teams of doctors who traveled to the country on medical relief missions.
