This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.

Collecting and distributing honey is all in a day's work for the Cox family in Logan, who own Cox Honeyland. This fourth-generation operation has been in the honey business for over a hundred years. It started as a small honey farm in St. George and moved to Providence where they built their first warehouse for honey production.

Today, Cox Honeyland has entered its fourth generation of family ownership. They still produce honey from the 4,000 hives Darren Cox is raising. He takes them throughout Utah and Idaho to collect nectar and to California for pollenization.

To make just one pound of honey, according to honey trivia, a hive of bees, which is up to 100,000 bees, travels a total of 55,000 miles and visits over two million flowers. Research has shown health benefits of honey include increasing your antioxidants, helping you absorb calcium and creating "good bacteria" in your digestive system.

The Coxes opened a small retail shop to market their honey and other gifts, just off Highway 89 as you come into Logan. In addition to their honey, you can find flavored honeys, fruited creamed honeys and honey treats, like honey almond popcorn and honey caramels at Cox Honeyland. Oh, and you can also bring your honey jar here and fill it for only $3 a pound.

Manager Maleesa Jacobsen says one of the fastest growing areas of Cox Honeyland is gift baskets. They have created a variety of gift baskets with Utah-specific items. Their customers love these baskets, personalized with local treasures! Cox Honeyland connected with Utah's Own to tap into companies like Pepperidge Farms, Lowry Meats, Casper's Ice Cream, DeVerle Seasonings and others.

You don't even have to live in Logan to get one of these baskets. You can call the shop, explain what you need and they'll take care of it. Or, you can visit coxhoney.com, and order the exact package you want. Maleesa says the holidays are an especially busy time for Cox Honeyland, and they're already gearing up for it.
