SALT LAKE CITY — It's common to see a pair of siblings playing together on the same high school sports team.

Three siblings playing at the varsity level on the same team? That's rare.

The East high boys Tennis team features three brothers in their varsity singles lineup.

Steiner is a senior and plays 1st singles. Chandler is a junior and plays 2nd singles while freshman Jorgen plays 3rd singles.

"We're always competitive with each other and always have to be the best," says Steiner.

The competition never ends between these three brothers on or off the tennis court.

"With the oldest over there playing at the top of his game it's kind of hard," says Jorgen. "The second oldest? I can always beat him."

"He's probably got the most potential but me and Stein give him a run for his money every once in a while." Says Chandler.

That competition has helped make these brothers better players and it's made the East tennis team a state title contender.

"To have three players of that caliber at one, two, three singles all having a chance of doing well in any match they play just puts us in a great position to win any team match," says their coach Andy Noorda.

East finished second in last year's 4A state tennis tournament and look to be a contender for a championship this year. Winning a state title together would be a dream come true for the Paulsen brothers.

"Holy cow that would be huge," Jorgen says.

"It would be amazing," says Chandler. "It would be amazing. It would be a memorable experience forever."

The 4A state boys' tennis tournament will take place this Friday and Saturday at Liberty Park in Salt Lake City.
