KEARNS — Emery rallied from a 5-0 deficit to capture the 2A baseball state championship with a 15-9 win over Parowan.

It was the Spartans second baseball state championship and first since 1982.

"I've been with these guys for a long time and they're incredible," first baseman Tanner Lake said. "They'll pick you up when you're down. They will always battle. We are never out of a game."

Parowan stunned Emery by jumping out to a 5-0 lead after three and a half innings. That's when the Spartans bats finally started to heat up. They scored 19 runs in their previous game against Kanab to reach the championship and that offensive explosion continued.

Lake got things started in the bottom of the 4th inning by driving in two runs cutting the Rams lead to two. Emery would eventually score seven runs in the 4th inning to take the lead.

The scoring continued in the fifth inning as the Spartans scored seven more runs to take a 14-5 lead.

Parowan tried to rally late scoring four runs in the 6th inning cutting Emery's lead to five.

The rally would end in the seventh inning as pitcher Baylee Bolotas, who came on in relief in the fourth inning, retired the side without giving up a run and the celebration began.

"They've got hearts of gold," head coach Steve Gordon said . "I was worried myself early but we didn't give up. We competed and we had that one inning where we kind of opened up and our confidence shot up. We had seven sophomores out there on the field and I think we were a little bit tight. It was a big game for them but we came through in the end."

Emery ends the season with a nine-game winning streak.
