BYU head coach Dave Rose said as a result of New Mexico's Wednesday night win at UNLV, "we're in a situation where we just need to worry about ourselves," reacting to the fact that BYU will win an outright conference championship if it wins the remainder of its games.

Acknowledging the outside projections and prognostications relative to conference matchups, Rose noted that "this is a tough time of year... because players come to practice thinking they already know what's going to happen (with other league games)...bottom line is every game is new and every game is different."

Freshman center Brandon Davies took part in some shooting drills but was kept out of contact and watched most of practice from the sidelines. Rose hopes Davies will increase his activity tomorrow, but says chances Davies will play Saturday versus Air Force are "slim."

Senior point guard Lamont Morgan, Jr. is a question mark for Saturday after getting "tangled up" in Wednesday's practice and injuring a knee. Rose said Morgan saw the doctor today and "we'll go from there."

Asked about Jonathan Tavernari, who has been playing well of late, Rose said "I'm excited for him...(JT has) a real spring in his step, walking around with real confidence, and that's a good sign."

You can hear post-practice interviews with Rose and Tyler Haws by clicking on their audio links in the "Cougar Cuts" box to the upper right.

Haws says he had been dealing "something going on with my arm" in addition to the knock on the head he picked up in the TCU game, but says the "past few days of rest have really helped me...I'm feeling healthy and good."

"Faces in the Crowd"...

...BYU's alltime assist leader Matt Montague was in the stands watching practice this afternoon. I didn't get the opportunity to catch up with him, unfortunately.
