SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Social-service and transit agencies are looking for ways to expand transportation options for disabled riders without driving up costs.
The Utah Transit Authority, the state transportation department and social-service organizations are scheduled to meet in the coming weeks to discuss statewide options.
The goal, they say, is to better coordinate transportation programs across the state that now operate independently. That means getting a better understanding of what resources -- buses, vans, maintenance centers -- are available.
State planning director Mike Mower is helping coordinate public and private nonprofits as part of a national effort called United We Ride.
He says the goal is to provide functioning service with less money and no increased cost to riders.
