SALT LAKE CITY – Ebola is on the minds of travelers at Salt Lake International Airport, after a man brought it into Dallas when he flew back from Liberia.
Tim DeBruin thought of the virus after he arrived from Minneapolis on Thursday.
“It’s obviously an issue, and I don’t know if I believe the CDC when they say there’s no problem of possible contamination around,” he said, “because I’ve seen it.”
DeBruin was one of several passengers who told KSL that he wants to see some international flights to the U.S. halted until the spread of Ebola can be stopped.
“I just got back from Paris and didn’t think about it twice,” he said. “It’s just the African flights that are the issue right now. Shut it off from the places where they’ve got it.”
Rich Robins, who landed in Salt Lake City from Ohio, called that measure extreme.
“It certainly needs to be taken care of appropriately and carefully, but I think getting everyone in a panic is not going to be helpful,” Robins said.
An airport worker told KSL that her colleagues and passengers became fearful on Wednesday, when they saw some travelers wearing masks and latex gloves.
Thomas Duncan died on Oct. 8 from Ebola. He had been working with people infected with the disease. Two of the nurses who treated Duncan contracted it as well.
