AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Freshman Joyner Holmes had 16 points and a career-high 13 rebounds for her first double-double and No. 16 Texas defeated Texas Rio Grande Valley 85-61 on Thursday night.

Brooke McCarty added 14 points for the Longhorns (4-4), who picked up their 500th victory — against 96 losses — in the Frank Erwin Center. Jada Underwood had 12 points off the bench, making all four of her shots and all four free throws, and senior Kelsey Lang had her third double-double — and fourth of her career — with 10 points and 10 rebounds

Texas led 29-17 after one quarter and broke the game open by outscoring the Vaqueros (5-6) 25-8 in the third quarter to lead 71-40. They made 22 of 62 shots (53 percent) and had a 50-35 rebounding advantage.

Bernesha Peters and Shawnte' Goff had 12 points apiece for Rio Grande Valley, which shot 29 percent (21 of 71).
