TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran's state TV is reporting that a rescue helicopter carrying eight people has crashed into a lake in western Tehran, killing two people.
The Tuesday report says the helicopter belonged to the Iran Helicopter Support and Renewal Company and that it crashed in Tehran's artificial Chitgar Lake.
Air accidents are relatively common in Iran, and are believed to be caused by poor maintenance and aging aircraft.
Earlier in November, a helicopter belonging to the National Iranian Oil Company carrying five people crashed in the Caspian Sea, killing everyone aboard.
