VIENNA (AP) — Iran and the world powers with which it is negotiating in Vienna have extended those nuclear talks by a week.

The announcement comes as the U.N.'s nuclear agency prepares to announce that Iran has met a key condition -- by significantly reducing its supplies of enriched uranium that could be used for atomic weapons.

Iran's failure to comply would have severely undermined the negotiations aimed at reaching a comprehensive nuclear agreement. The goal is to curb Iran's nuclear program for a decade, in exchange for tens of billions of dollars in relief from international economic sanctions.

The State Department announced the extra days of talks only hours before the expiration of the target date for their completion.

By extending the deadline, nuclear restrictions that Iran agreed to some 20 months ago will remain in place -- along with slightly eased conditions for Iranian business with the world.
