DOUALA, Cameroon (AP) — The Committee to Project Journalists says an explosion destroyed the car of a journalist in Cameroon who had been warned by the government to be careful over his coverage of security forces.

The group said Thursday that Denis Nkwebo, editor of the daily newspaper Le Jour and English-language correspondent for Radio France Internationale, was not hurt in the explosion outside his house in Douala, Cameroon's commercial capital.

Nkwebo had documented shortcomings of security forces in regions of Cameroon bordering Nigeria, where the Boko Haram terrorist network is carrying out deadly attacks, and Central African Republic, where Cameroonian forces have been drawn into skirmishes.

A defense ministry spokesman disputed Nkwebo's reporting in a statement Monday.

Government officials could not immediately be reached for comment.
