WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) — A suburban New York woman has been sentenced to 19 years in prison for killing her 14-month-old daughter, who was found lifeless in a playpen with her arms sticking up in the air and may have been refrigerated.
The Westchester County district attorney's office says 27-year-old Deasia Bartee (dee-AY'-zhuh bahr-TEE') was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty to manslaughter.
The child, Samia (sam-EE'-uh) Yusuf, was found in a playpen in Mount Vernon on Aug. 5. Prosecutors say she was on her back with her arms rigid pointing toward the ceiling.
An emergency room doctor told police she may have been dead for some time. He also said her body may have been refrigerated.
An autopsy found Samia died from blunt force. Prosecutors say she'd suffered a severe back injury, internal bleeding and malnourishment.
