NEW YORK (AP) — He's not just the president-elect -- he's now Time Magazine's "Person of the Year." And Donald Trump is continuing the process of putting his administration together, telling NBC's "Today" show that he expects to pick a secretary of state next week.
He says Mitt Romney is still in the running. Trump has put Romney through a very public audition process -- and he's allowed his aides to take the unusual step of denouncing him in interviews. Trump denied he was stringing Romney along to make him pay for saying Trump was unfit to serve. He said, "I'm able to put this stuff behind us."
Those close to the selection process have said that Trump has begun moving away from both Romney and another former front-runner for the post, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
Trump, appearing at a Manhattan transition fundraiser today, announced that he had selected Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad as the new U.S. ambassador to China.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Time Magazine, Trump said he will "work something out" to help immigrants who were brought to the country illegally as children and were granted work visas by President Barack Obama. He offered no details, but talked much more sympathetically about those immigrants than he had during the campaign.
