AMERICAN FORK, Utah (AP) — Police are searching for whoever is responsible for vandalizing a memorial for a fallen Utah County sheriff's deputy.
The Deseret News reports (http://bit.ly/2cAmUNL ) that a monument in Robinson Park dedicated to Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Cory Wride has been damaged, with large cracks and scuffs running across the granite memorial as if it had been smashed by a rock.
Wride was shot and killed in the line of duty on Jan. 30, 2014.
Wride's father, Blake Wride, discovered the cracks and scuffs on Saturday when he went to visit the monument.
American Fork Police Lt. Sam Liddiard says police are investigating the vandalism as an intentional act, as it would take a great deal of force to crack the memorial.
Liddiard says it will cost $400 to repair the memorial.
