LAS VEGAS (AP) — A thunderstorm in Phoenix has caused a dustup in Las Vegas.
The National Weather Service says large "outflow" winds caused by weather in Arizona were bringing in large amounts of dust to Las Vegas early Saturday.
The gusts that came in overnight were estimated to be 40 mph.
As a result, the Clark County Department of Air Quality issued an air quality alert for the day.
County officials say there have been unhealthy levels of dust outside.
Children, elderly residents and anyone with respiratory issues have been urged to stay indoors.
That dust could get washed out by storms forecast for the evening in metropolitan Las Vegas.
Meteorologists have issued a flash-flood watch through Saturday night.
The National Weather Service is already reporting quarter-inch-sized hail in the southwest valley.
