BALTIMORE (AP) — A Maryland restaurant accused of serving alcohol to a man who later drove drunk and killed a police officer will surrender its liquor license.
Associate county attorney Kathryn Lloyd said in a phone interview Monday that the Hooters restaurant in Rockville agreed to surrender its license and permanently close on Nov. 1.
Lloyd says the action came after the Board of License Commissioners charged the restaurant with sale to an intoxicated person.
In December, police say 47-year-old Luis Reluzco drank at the restaurant before crashing into 24-year-old County Police Officer Noah Leotta, who was working DUI enforcement in Gaithersburg. Leotta died a week later.
Reluzco pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter. He'll be sentenced next month.
Hooters said in a statement that because of the circumstances, giving up the license was the right thing to do.
