MERRYVILLE, La. (AP) — Sheriff's deputies in Louisiana say a father and his two sons drowned on the Sabine River near Merryville.
Beauregard Parish Sheriff Ricky Moses tells local news outlets the call came in about 2:30 p.m. Sunday of a possible drowning. Moses says witnesses told deputies the two boys were swimming in the river when they began to struggle. When their father went in to help, Moses said he also started to struggle.
Moses says a witness went into the water to grab the father, but he had already died.
Authorities searched the river and located the bodies of both boys Sunday night.
The father has been identified as 51-year-old Harlin Powell. The names of the two boys have not been released.
