BALTIMORE (AP) — Maryland officials have denied requests to remove three school board members who ousted a superintendent in Queen Anne's County.
The Washington Post (http://wapo.st/29b1eqh ) reports that the Maryland State Board of Education announced Tuesday that the community requests were not factually or legally sufficient to warrant the removal of the board members.
The requests stemmed from the school board's decision in February to not renew the contract of Superintendent Carol Williamson.
The state board found that some of the school board's actions during the public meetings regarding the superintendent were inappropriate and unprofessional. The state board urged school board members to be more open and receptive during important debates.
School board member Arlene Taylor says she hadn't reviewed the state board's opinions. The other two didn't respond to requests for comment.
