PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A 21-year-old Providence man has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting of a former city high school basketball player.
Jose Morales was arraigned in Providence on Monday. He was ordered held without bail until a July 8 hearing. It's unclear if he has an attorney who can comment.
He is charged in the death of 22-year-old Kip Stewart of Warwick, who was shot in the head at the Hartford Park housing complex the night of June 18.
The former Mount Pleasant basketball player died last week at Rhode Island Hospital, marking the city's third homicide of 2016.
Police have said that the gunman shot at a group of people and Stewart was likely not the intended target.
