WASHINGTON (AP) — Officials say five inmates have been injured during a fight at the District of Columbia jail.

Corrections spokeswoman Sylvia Lane says the fight happened Thursday night in an inmate housing unit. She says the five men sustained lacerations and wounds from homemade shanks and weapons.

Lane says three of the inmates were taken to hospitals. The others were treated at the jail.

None of their injuries are believed to be life-threatening. Lane says the fight is being investigated.

The Washington Post reports (http://wapo.st/1UgWsou) authorities had responded to the jail earlier that evening for a report of a man being stabbed.

Lane says that inmate was injured during a fight and taken to a hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries

It is unclear if the two incidents were related.
