DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — The next pretrial hearing will occur in June in the case of a man accused of killing a Muslim couple and one of their relatives in North Carolina.
Prosecutor James Dornfried told the judge that defense attorneys for Craig Hicks couldn't attend a pretrial case management hearing on Friday and suggested they come back in June. Judge Orlando Hudson agreed.
Hicks is charged with murder in the 2015 deaths of Deah Barakat; his wife, Yusor Abu-Salha; and her sister, Razan Abu-Salha. The couple were neighbors of the defendant, who was known for arguing over parking spots at a Chapel Hill apartment complex and also making Facebook posts disdaining all religions.
No trial date has been set.
The victims' families have sought to keep their memories alive by continuing their philanthropy, including a dental clinic for Syrian refugees.
