BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A Legislative panel has introduced a measure that would require all Idaho state candidates and people pushing ballot initiatives to file campaign finance reports.
Republican Senator Mary Souza says the proposal's goal would make campaign finance reporting consistent throughout the state.
Currently city bond elections, ballot measures and school board trustee elections in districts with less than 500 people don't have to report their campaign finances. Public action committees also don't file campaign finance reports.
Souza told the Senate State Affairs Committee Wednesday that making such elections transparent is important to show who is trying to influence voters.
The measure must pass through the committee and gain the backing of both chambers before reaching Gov. C. L. Butch Otter's desk.
