LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas Police say video shows 32-year-old Thomas Joseph McEniry pointing a weapon that turned out to be a pellet gun before officers shot and killed him.
Assistant Sheriff Kirk Primas said Monday during a briefing about the Nov. 24 shooting that McEniry was tased moments before but the prongs hit his jacket.
Primas says McEniry had a lengthy criminal record for theft, drugs, child abuse and domestic violence.
He says an officer tried to pull over McEniry shortly before 2 a.m. because his license plate wasn't registered to his car. Police say McEniry abandoned the car a couple miles away and ran into an apartment parking lot. Video footage shows McEniry refused to show his hands or get on the ground when officers arrived, screaming he hadn't done anything.
