RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A documentary produced for the Virginia attorney general's office is focusing on the state's heroin and prescription drug overdose epidemic.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1PgPi3W) reports the documentary created by Virginia State University will debut next week at the Library of Virginia in Richmond.
The 48-minute film "Heroin: The Hardest Hit" is narrated by broadcast journalist Ed Gordon.
According to the attorney general's office, 728 people died in Virginia last year from overdoses of heroin or prescription drugs. That's up from 661 in 2013.
Directed by Virginia State filmmaker Jesse Vaughan, the documentary will be available next Wednesday on the attorney general's website, www.oag.state.va.us. It will be shown in free screenings around the state next month and air on television in January.
