BEVERLY, Mass. (AP) — A sailboat with a dead person aboard has washed ashore near a public park in northeastern Massachusetts.
Police in Beverly say an officer and park visitors saw the boat run aground near Lynch Park on Friday afternoon.
The Essex District Attorney's Office says the person found aboard was an elderly man who appeared to have died of natural causes. His name hasn't been released.
Medical examiners will be performing an autopsy to try to determine the cause and manner of death.
The boat remained grounded as low tide approached.
Park visitor Barbara Czernuszka told The Salem News that it was scary watching the boat drift unattended toward shore and hit rocks.
