LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police say the man officers shot and killed after he shot an officer in the face with a pellet gun Saturday night at a Las Vegas apartment didn't say a word before the shootout.

Assistant Sheriff Todd Fasulo said Las Vegas Police arrived at 3040 E. Charleston Blvd. to investigate an unrelated case of a man beaten with a pool cue. That's when Fasulo says 36-year-old Bryan Keith Day walked out of a neighboring apartment and stared at officers who told Day he needed to go inside or leave.

Police say they don't know why Day returned with a gun and shot Officer Keith McIntyre once in the face and twice in the chest before officers shot 60 rounds killing Day. McIntyre was treated for a cut on his cheek.
