SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. (AP) — A northern Washington school district has declared a planned teachers union strike illegal, but that won't stop the planned rally.
The Skagit-Valley Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1OA8cCT ) that the Sedro-Woolley School Board passed a resolution Monday saying strikes of any length by any employees are illegal and do "irreparable harm" to students.
On Wednesday, teachers from 11 school districts plan to participate in one-day strikes to protest legislative action regarding the state's plan to fully fund education.
School Board President Jim Kallio said the board supports fully funding education and teachers in general, but disagrees with strikes as a way to voice opinions.
The state teachers union announced the strike on April 17. A Sedro-Woolley union representative said the strike will proceed as planned.
