JEROME, Idaho (AP) — Construction has started on a new jail in Jerome County in south-central Idaho.
The ground breaking ceremony Thursday attended by Lt. Gov. Brad Little comes two years after voters approved an $11.2 million bond.
Jerome County Commissioner Charlie Howell tells The Times-News of Twin Falls (http://bit.ly/1x0JJci) that a new jail has been a 10-year project for him.
Voters rejected four bond proposals before approving one in May 2013.
Jerome County officials in November signed a $10.8 million contract with a Boise construction firm.
Construction of the 132-bed facility is expected to last up to 14 months.
