SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Real Salt Lake officials are planning to build a new 8,000-seat minor league soccer stadium in the Salt Lake City suburb of West Valley City.
The team and the city announced Tuesday they will negotiate the deal over the next 60 days. If they can reach an agreement, construction would begin this spring.
Last week, a deal fell through between the team and Utah State Fairpark officials to build a stadium there. Real Salt Lake owner Dell Loy Hansen had offered to cover the costs of the $18 million stadium, but revoked the offer after legislators failed to approve a long-term lease.
Real Salt Lake hopes to open the stadium by 2016 for use by a USL Pro league team called the Monarchs, one level below Major League Soccer.
