FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — A 24-year-old police officer and a suspect are dead after a shootout in Flagstaff, Arizona, on Saturday afternoon.
Police say Officer Tyler Stewart died at Flagstaff Medical Center after he was shot by a suspect in a domestic-violence case.
Police say Stewart was looking for the suspect when a man identified as 28-year-old Robert W. Smith of Prescott, fired several shots at the officer before he shot himself.
According to police, Stewart had worked at the department for less than a year. He was a graduate of Boulder Creek High School in Anthem, Arizona, and Concordia College in California.
