SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. (AP) — Police say they may bring charges against a 20-year-old California woman who was driving at speeds approaching 100 mph before a crash that killed a South Lake Tahoe woman riding in her car.
South Lake Tahoe Police Lt. Brian Williams says alcohol apparently played a role in Monday's early morning accident that claimed the life of Aimee Campos.
Williams said Wednesday they were awaiting blood test results to determine whether charges should be filed against the driver, Ogla Penaarce of South Lake Tahoe.
He told Lake Tahoe News she was traveling at "an extremely high rate of speed — perhaps 90 to 100 mph" before she lost control on Pioneer Trail.
Penaarce and another passenger, 25-year-old Wayne Walker of Sacramento, remained hospitalized in Reno Wednesday with serious injuries.
