SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Two college students from the Northern California city of Palo Alto have won prestigious Rhodes scholarships.

The Rhodes Trust announced the 32 new U.S. recipients this weekend. The two Northern California winners include Rachel Skokowski, a French major at Princeton University. The other Northern California recipient is Elliot Akama-Garren, now a biology major at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The Rhodes Scholars program was established in 1902, and is one of the top academic awards for American college students. Recipients receive funding for multiple years of study at Oxford University in England.
