MONTICELLO, Utah (AP) — A Texas man has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from an August 2013 wreck that killed three people in Utah.
David Lewis of Saginaw, Texas, pleaded guilty Thursday to three class A misdemeanor counts of negligent homicide.
The Deseret News reports 7th District Judge Lyle Anderson ordered Lewis to serve one year in jail on each charge, then suspended those sentences and put Lewis in jail for 60 days.
Prosecutors say Lewis was trying to pass a tractor-trailer rig in a no-passing zone on State Route 191 south of Moab when his vehicle slammed into an oncoming car, then was struck by another car.
Two passengers in Lewis' car, 54-year-old Juan Vidales and his 27-year-old daughter Stephanie Vidales, were killed, as was a passenger in another car, 69-year-old Arthur Loewen of Perry, Georgia.
