Vermont names 2015 teacher of the year

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — A Burlington elementary school teacher has been named Vermont's 2015 teacher of the year.

The Department of Education announced Tuesday the selection of Rebecca Haslam, a teacher at Champlain Elementary School and the district social studies and equity curriculum coach for grades kindergarten through grade 5.

Haslam teachers first grade and helps develop curriculum along with teachers in each of the Burlington School District's six elementary schools.

She also serves on the district's Equity Council, and has taken on a leadership role in creating professional development sessions for all teachers so they so they can meet the needs of each student in the diverse population in Burlington.
