ROY, Utah (AP) — Authorities say a man who was driving more than 100 mph in the wrong direction on Interstate 15 is dead, and a driver who he hit has also died.
Utah Highway Patrol officials say several witnesses called to report the speeding Toyota Camry, which started going the wrong way near the Roy exit at about 9:40 p.m. Monday. Several troopers tried unsuccessfully to stop the car before it hit an oncoming vehicle.
The 28-year-old wrong-way driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He's been identified as Layton resident Cory S. Bertine.
Troopers say the driver who was struck by Bertine, 56-year-old Carlos Valdez, was taken to McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden, but succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday morning.
