SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Early voting begins Tuesday across Utah.
The state will open up dozens of polling locations in the two weeks leading up to the Nov. 4 election to allow people to vote early. State figures show nearly one-fourth of voters cast their ballots this way in 2012.
Early voting is one of three main ways to vote in Utah, along with mail-in voting and traditional election day voting.
Mail-in ballots, which were sent out weeks ago, accounted for 18 percent of votes in 2012. Even more are expected this year with nine of the 29 Utah counties doing almost exclusive mail-in voting.
State figures show votes cast at polling places on election day accounted for about six in 10 votes in 2012, down from about seven in 10 in 2010.
