SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Utah Highway Patrol is investigating the death of a motorcyclist who crashed off Interstate 80 in Parley's Canyon east of Salt Lake City.
UHP Sgt. Larry Mower says the green sport bike was headed east on I-80 when he apparently lost control a mile west of the East Canyon off-ramp about 1: 30 p.m. Saturday.
Mower says excessive speed most likely played a role in the crash. He told KSL-TV (http://tinyurl.com/orgxt4m) witnesses reported the cyclist had just passed a couple of cars and had moved from the inside lane to the outside lane. He said the man who appeared to be in his late 40s was thrown from the bike. He wasn't wearing a helmet and died at the scene.
His name was being withheld pending notification of family.
