PHENIX CITY, Ala. (AP) — An administrator at Gadsden State Community College is taking over as interim president at Chattahoochee Valley Community College in Phenix City.

Two-year Chancellor Mark Heinrich says he's appointing Valerie Richardson to the temporary position at Chattahoochee Valley. She's been a vice president at the college in Gadsden.

Richardson is taking over following the resignation of D. Glen Cannon as president at Chattahoochee Valley.

Heinrich says Richardson has significant experience in education and leadership that will help the school through the transitional period.

Chattahoochee Valley serves more than 2,600 students annually in southeast Alabama and the Columbus, Georgia, area.
