UNITY, N.H. (AP) — The new elementary school has been constructed in Unity, New Hampshire, but the starting date for students has been postponed to give teachers more time to set up their classrooms.
After many delays, the first day of school was scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 2. It's now been delayed until Monday, Sept. 8.
The Eagle Times reports (http://bit.ly/1tUpbRZ) furniture also needs to be brought in the building and the school needs to be thoroughly cleaned.
To make up for the delay, school board members said they plan to ask the state Department of Education if one hour can be added to the school day throughout the year. That would create a 176-day school year with seven-hour days, instead of 180 days of six hours in length.
