BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho Republicans are poised to elect a new party leader after spending months entrenched in political infighting over who should have control of the state's GOP.
The state central committee, which serves as the Republican Party's governing body, will meet Saturday in Boise to vote on new party officers, including a party chairman.
So far candidates include Steve Yates of Idaho Falls, Douglas Pickett of Oakley and Mike Duff of Blackfoot, but other potential candidates could be announced at Saturday's meeting.
Earlier this week, a district judge ruled former party chairman Barry Peterson must give up his reign because his term had expired.
Peterson had claimed that Republicans agreed to extend his term another two years when they adjourned the state's chaotic GOP convention in June.
